I created a WordPress plugin to show the file size (and it’s variants) in the Media Library. You can also sort the column by file size too to find the largest files. Here’s the official plugin:

Now you got me. I never knew that the media library has all these features. and it’s also good to learn how to get rid of some used images and generated thumbnails. because they increased a lot the storage when we convert to webp

I had some old sites with images larger than the version rendered on the user’s screen, now I had to fix everything, I wish I had found a checklist to follow at the beginning, there are a lot of things I need to fix on the sites these days because I don’t pay attention in the past.

The WordPress’ default JPEG compression really frustrated me at first. I tried to get along with it but still didn’t feel satisfied. Thanks for your suggestion, definitely need to install one for my site.

Hello there Julian,

hope you’re doing well and appreciate the feedback on this.

As both of these features are already taken care (JPEG is a simple filter, Regenerate Thumbnails plugin is pretty mature now), I’m not sure if we’d like to add these in Smush as well.
Not sure though, so I’ve already pinged our designers and developers in case I’m missing something. :)

I didn’t know about the built in JPEG compression. Smush should have an option to disable that to let her do all the compressing instead.

And since Smush is all about image optimization, why not add a regenerate thumbnail feature? Now we still have to install another plugin for that.
